Dinosaurs in Antarctica (2011)

Dinosaurs in Antarctica (2011)

For Piano Solo

Duration: 1 minute

This piece was written as a commission for a friend who wanted a one-minute piece depicting “what it would sound like if dinosaurs were in Antarctica.” It was intended as an encore for his senior piano recital. Although not ultimately used for the recital, the pianist recorded it in May 2011. The piece is constructed with a repetition of large, pounding chords portraying the stomping of the massive dinosaurs. There is a contrasting idea in the upper half of the piano, a gentle flourish of notes. The notes are depicting the blowing winds of the cold antarctic. The blowing winds begin to confuse the dinosaurs and throw them off their stride. In the end, the winds bring the large dinosaurs tumbling to the ground with the gentle wind blowing over their fallen bodies.
